Reading Tm 2 Wk 6

Kia ora
In this activity we had to mach the colors to each statement to help us understand how to sequence an argument. I found this easy to do and completed it all by myself.

Understanding how to structure and write an argument.
The first paragraph of an argument is called the THESIS. A THESIS is something that you believe. In a piece of argument writing, a THESIS is made up of two parts. Part 1 is your sentence about what you believe. This is called a POSITION STATEMENT.
Part 2 is made up of three sentences each of which tells one argument in support of what you believe. This is called your PREVIEW OF ARGUMENTS. These three sentences start with Firstly, Secondly and Thirdly.

In this exercise you need to match a POSITION STATEMENT with a PREVIEW OF ARGUMENTS.Use the ‘Fill tool’ to colour code the matching statements.

I believe that no one should be able to have more than two children.
Firstly, they are much cleaner than dogs. Secondly, they are easier to look after. Thirdly, they are much softer and fluffier than dogs.
I believe that dairy farmers are not doing enough to prevent pollution of waterways on their land.
Firstly, chocolate is something people get addicted to.Secondly, often it is very expensive.Thirdly, people have been known to kill for chocolate.
I believe that homework should be banned.
Firstly,we have had too many male Prime Ministers who were ineffective. Secondly, females tend to think people are more important than money. Thirdly, females usually are much better at creating good teamwork.
I believe that chocolate is a drug.
Firstly, both parents work full time nowadays. Secondly, raising children is very expensive. Thirdly, large families lead to cramped, unhealthy living conditions.
I believe that future Prime Ministers of NZ should all be female.
Firstly, homework is ineffective. Secondly, it is unfair. Thirdly, kids have better things to do after school.
I believe that cats make better pets than dogs.
Firstly, farmers are not completing the fencing of waterways on time. Secondly, they are leaving gaps in fences that stock can get through.Thirdly, they spray too much effluent onto paddocks which drain into creeks.
