Week 9 Term 1 Hockey Coaching

We had another round of hockey coaching from our super-cool hockey experts this week. They reminded us of the correct way to hold a hockey stick, how to make sure the ball went in the right direction, how to push it towards a partner, how to stop it and how to pass a ball back and forth between two markers. At the end we had a competition to see how many times we could pass a ball back and forth between each other. Here are some videos.

Myth writing T1 W9

Kia ora
This term we have been focusing on Myths.
Within the last few weeks we have made our own Myths and this one is mine.
Hope you enjoy!

Why We Have Seasons.
A myth by Kirsten Clark.

Long long ago….there was no light. The earth was cold as ice.
Then one day a small dot appeared named Hera. She created everything. She created the trees the air and the world. Over time Hera grew and grew until she was a goddess. She had four kids-Spring,Summer,Autumn and Winter. She created every daughter with exquisite detail from their waving, brightly-coloured hair to their soft delicate feet. Hera found corners of the earth that were dark and gloomy. She made them light and bright and went on her way.

But, one day, darkness started to take over the world. Darkness reached the castle and stopped. Hera came out. “Why are you here!” she called.
Darkness swept over the castle as if to answer. Spring was brushing her flowing pink hair when she saw the darkness outside her window. She sprang up and ran to Autumn's room. She thudded on the door until Autumn came out.
“Something is happening outside!” Spring yelled. The both of them gathered the others outside.
“Look!” yelled Winter.
“Look at what?” Spring asked.
“All I can see is dark!” Autumn snapped
“How will I ever do my makeup now?!” screamed Summer
Hera attacked the darkness with the same light that she used to create the universe but she was too tired to carry on so she tried to reason with the Darkness.

They made an arrangement for darkness to work with Winter to make the days in winter shorter. The rest of the seasons had their own days and they lived happily ever after. And that is why we have seasons on Earth.

Swimimg T1 W7

Kia ora
This term we have had the Swim safe people helping us to be more aware of water safety.
This week we swam in clothes.
We had to fall back into the pool full clothed and try to float for 2 minutes.
After the two minutes they told us to lay back down and without sinking take the clothes off.
Most of the clothes were like T-shirts and Jeans and some Jerseys.
But what I grabbed was a onesie, a heavy socking wet onesie.
I jumped in the onesie and fell back into the pool.
It was fun!

Pleading a Cause- Persuasive writing

Kia ora
In writing we had to pretend we are the King of Athens.  We wrote a letter to King Minos, pleading for the lives of the youths who are to be fed to the Minotaur.
We had to give at least 3 reasons why their lives should be spared.
This one is mine.
Hope you enjoy!

Dear King Minos,
I am writing to you about the fate of the nine doomed youths.  I plead for their release on the grounds that:
Firstly, they have done absolutely nothing to deserve to be served to a beast like the Minotaur.

Secondly, these youths could grow up to be fine warriors for your kingdom and murdering them could be the worst mistake of your life.

Finally ,killing innocent youths is not going to bring your son back to life.

So in conclusion, the youths will be dying for no good reason and will never live successful lives
or be warriors.

Yours faithfully,
King of Athens
