The Best Tree Hut

The Best Tree Hut

“Ring ring” went the phone at 9,00 O'clock in the morning.
“ I just wanted to sleep in” I muttered as I ran to the phone.
“Hellooo”I sang as I answered the phone.
“Who’s this”
“Depla”
“Yes!” I exclaimed as I ran to fetch Mum.
After we arranged to have a playdate I gobbled up my breakfast and ran out the door.
We arrived at my grandma’s and I anxiously awaited them.
When Depla arrived I volunteered to tour her and her family around.
We went up and visited my ducklings.
I picked them up and fed them from my palm.
“What are their names?”
asked Depla
“The big one’s name is Paddle and the other one is Pip”
I explained
“I like Pip”
She said as she hugged him close.
Depla’s mom left and we started to ponder on what we should play.
We were on my tramp when I had the best idea ever.
“Let’s build a tree hut!” I suddenly screamed
Depla was startled and suddenly grinned.
“That sounds like a great idea”
She exclaimed
We gathered wood, nails, drills, hammers, screws, hedge clippers and saws.
I sawed all the branches that were in our way and cut and the sharp sticks.
Finally we had a clear path in the tree and a ladder made entirely out of wood.
“Should we make the floor?”
asked Depla.
“Yes”
I exclaimed“Is it Missing something?”

asked Depla.
“Yeah”
“What’s it missing?”
“I know!”
I ran off to the old garden shed and pulled open a dusty box.
There it was a dusty katmandu hammock.
I ran to Depla with a cold drink and sat her down on a lawn chair.
Told her to close her eyes and I put up the hammock.
I told her to open her eyes.
She opened her eyes and the first thing she said was…….
“Kirsten where are you?”
I jumped out of the hammock and said…..
“Hi”
She jumped and quickly turned around “ohhhhhhhhhhhh wow!”
She exclaimed.
She looked at the hammock with auw and asked
“Does it work?”
“Yes!”
We took turns swinging on it when I had my 2nd turn the hammock fell to the ground.
There was a moment of silence as we went over what happened.
Then we looked at each other and laughed.
The End
